ReStore Sponsored Home Breaks Ground

Habitat for Humanity of Horry County supporters, volunteers, staff and more gathered recently for the groundbreaking ceremony of Nicole’s new Habitat home.

This was the 178th home to break ground and is sponsored by the Habitat for Humanity of Horry County ReStore.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers. All sales revenue generated by the ReStore goes directly back into the mission of Habitat for Humanity. The model of the ReStore is that gently used household items, furniture, appliances, and building materials are donated by the community then resold to the community. Each non-taxable sale made in the publicly accessible ReStore helps to generate the revenue which is then utilized to support the mission implementation of Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity of Horry County operates two ReStore locations. The first is in Myrtle Beach, across from the Socastee Library. The second and newest location is in the North Myrtle Beach area, located near Colonial Charters in Longs.

Nicole is a native of New Jersey and currently living in Myrtle Beach with her three children, Gianna, Mackenzie and Jaxon. She is employed by Lakewood Campground.

Friends of Nicole’s shared the Habitat Homeownership program with her because they knew she was outgrowing her small two-room camper in the Lakewood Campground.  She had been wanting a home for her family for so long, that she decided to apply.

Nicole believes her children will be much happier and do better in school once they are in their own home. The family loves music, dancing and singing, watching movies and playing games together.

“I am loving this experience,” exclaimed Nicole. “I am enjoying learning to build homes and seeing how it all comes together.”

According to Nicole, it’s hard to think about what she will do first, once in her own home. She and her family are just so excited about the opportunity of being in their own home. The children all have ideas of what “decorating themes” they want in their rooms. Nicole most looks forward to sitting at the table together for meals, watching movies together and inviting people over to visit.

For Nicole, home means family, love, and a safe place. She would like to thank everyone for all their time and help. “You have no idea how much this means to me and my children!”
