Breaking Ground: Women Build 2025 at Owens Creek

FUN09815

On Friday, March 7, 2025, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County celebrated the groundbreaking of this year’s Women Build Home at Owens Creek, our newest neighborhood. The event marked the beginning of an inspiring journey for Rachel Pertelle, a dedicated medical practice assistant and single mother of three. Thanks to the collective efforts of our volunteers, donors, and community partners, she will soon have a home of her own.

A Community United for Women Build
Women Build is more than just a construction project—it’s a movement that empowers women to take action against housing insecurity. The groundbreaking event brought together a dynamic group of supporters, including volunteers from Beach Church, who joined in raising the first walls of Rachel’s future home. CRG Homes reinforced their commitment to affordable housing by providing a generous $20,000 matching gift, ensuring that every dollar donated makes an even more significant impact.

Additionally, Dumpster Girl, a women-owned business, plays a vital role in keeping the site clean and managing construction waste, demonstrating the power of women-led enterprises in building a stronger community. South Atlantic Bank, alongside other Habitat homebuyers and Women Build supporters, also joined the celebration, showcasing the widespread support behind this initiative.

Women Supporting Women
This year’s Women Build started with a special gathering at The Tasting Room on 9th Ave, a women-owned business, setting the stage for a season of collaboration, empowerment, and progress. We are also grateful for the generous sponsorship of State Farm Wade Davis, whose support fuels our mission to create safe, affordable housing opportunities in Horry County.
