Habitat Dedicates House #139 Sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities

Horry County, SC – Habitat for Humanity of Horry County will dedicate House #139 on Saturday, August 18, at 9 a.m.  This home was fully funded by Publix Super Markets Charities and construction on the home was kicked off with the Habitat’s for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge, a program that provides an alternative to spring break for college students.  House #139 was also a build site for the 11th Annual Habitat Women Build Week in May.  The Dedication will take place at 4951 Lyons Lane in Longs.

Sonya and her three sons completed Habitat for Humanity’s Home Buyer Program and will be purchasing the home with a zero percent interest mortgage. Sonya entered the Habitat Home Buyer Program in October 2016 and have since completed over 530 sweat equity hours, attended monthly financial classes, paid closing costs and paid off all existing debt in order to purchase their home with a zero percent interest mortgage.  “Every day I drive by the build site to see the house and I am so happy to start this next part of our lives.  My boys are so excited and talk about how they can’t wait to finally live in a house that is ours!  We are so grateful to Habitat and everyone who helped build the house and have been part of this blessing,” said Sonya.

“Every family deserves an opportunity to have a roof over their heads and food on their table,” said Carol Jenkins Barnett, President of Publix Super Markets Charities. “My father established our foundation in 1966 with a strong desire to see our communities thrive. Fifty years later, we’re still honoring his legacy. We are delighted to support Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Publix’s footprint by giving $5.5 million to this very important cause.”
