Home Buyer program mentors

The process of the Home Buyer Program is a commitment that can be stressful and challenging for the participant.  HFHHC understands the process of change and the need for support of those families in the Home Buyer Program. By creating the Home Buyer Mentorship Program, HFHHC hopes to make a successful transition from renters to owners and give the Home Buyer all the tools necessary for them to be a successful Homeowner.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact us at [email protected] or complete the form below.

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age requirements for construction volunteering?

All construction and home repair volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Some tasks, such as roof work and vinyl siding, have additional restrictions.

Minors may volunteer with a parent or guardian's signature and must follow these restrictions:

  • No work above 6 feet
  • No power tools
  • No demolition or crawlspace work
Is construction experience needed in order to volunteer?

No, not at all! Previous experience never hurts, but it isn't necessary. Our site supervisors provide on-the-job training for each day's tasks.

Are construction shifts rain or shine?

Yes. Unless our staff notifies you by 6:45am that a shift is cancelled, plan to volunteer regardless of the weather. Supervisors will adjust tasks for severe conditions.

What if I can't volunteer for an entire day?

Half-day opportunities are available at our ReStore locations. Construction sites occasionally offer half-day shifts, which are posted on the volunteer calendar.

Can I complete my court-ordered community service with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County?

Court-ordered community service cannot be completed on our construction sites, but it is available through our ReStores.

Can I volunteer at the ReStore if I don't have community service hours to complete?
Do I need to bring tools with me?

All necessary tools and safety gear will be provided. You're welcome to bring your own tools—just label them with your name.

Will there be water and food provided?

Water is provided on site, so bring a refillable bottle. Lunch is not included; please bring your own or arrange for delivery.

I'm having trouble signing up to volunteer on the website. What can I do?

Try using an updated web browser and make sure you're signing up with a unique email address. If you still have trouble, contact Nathan Mellix, our Community Outreach Manager, at [email protected] and include a screenshot of the issue.
