“Good Start Program” Launches for New Habitat Horry Homeowners

Wellspring Church and Branches of Love Help Fund the Program

At a recent home dedication, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County announced the launch of the newly expanded “Good Start Program” for new Habitat homeowners.

The new program and initiative provides a “Good Start” to families who have successfully completed the Habitat Homebuyer Program and are celebrating the dedication of their new home. The program is funded in part by an on-going partnership with Wellspring Church and Branches of Love. Wellspring Church is a longtime supporter of the organization and its mission locally.

The “Good Start Program” provides families with new beds, grocery gift cards to fill their pantries, a gift card to purchase lawn equipment, a Chromebook to continue their Financial Literacy Education and Home Budgeting, and a new washer and dryer. Each of the items ensure that the families get the right start as they begin their homeownership journey.

“We are excited to partner with Branches of Love to see more families find independence in buying a home,” says Eric Colquett, Student and Outreach Pastor at Wellspring Church. “We love the Good Start Program and can’t wait to continue to bless more families through this program! “

The Homebuyer program is a 12- to 18-month program where families attend monthly financial classes, perform sweat equity hours, pay closing costs, pay down their current debt and agree to not take on any additional debt.  Upon completion of the program, families can purchase their Habitat home with an interest-free mortgage.

Continued support from local partners like Wellspring Church and Branches of Love will help to sustain the program for years to come.
