The Ford Family closes on their new home, just in time for Christmas.
Habitat for Humanity of Horry County faith partners, volunteers, staff and more gathered the Friday prior to Christmas for the dedication of the Ford family’s new Habitat home.
The 171st home Habitat for Humanity of Horry County was sponsored by Horry County HOME Consortium and Habitat for Humanity of Horry County’s Faith Build.
Since inception, Habitat for Humanity has been built on a foundation of faith. The mission is to build safe, affordable housing with people in our community, and that comes from a desire to put God’s love into action.
“What a special day to gather and celebrate followers of Jesus coming together to serve mankind as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus who gave us the perfect example of love and service. This home was made possible for this precious family because of the generosity of nine churches coming together to show God’s love in a tangible way,” states Organizational Advancement Director, Rachel Kennon. “We pray next year we will have even more Horry County churches join us for Faith Build 2024!”
This marks the completion of the organization’s second annual Faith Build since its inception in 1990. Faith Partners, volunteers and supporters have had the opportunity to display God’s love and engage with other churches in the community – working alongside one another and future Habitat homeowners.

The Ford family is excited to finally become homeowners. Allen and Mandy Ford (MacKenzie, Kaitlyn and Kimberly) applied to the Habitat homeownership program in the Spring of 2022 with a desire to build a safer, more secure future for their daughters. Prior to Habitat, the family rented a small, mobile home that needed extensive repairs.
Allen, who works long hours as a manager with a local landscaping company, said he wanted to provide a safe home for his family where they can grow better and stronger together. Mandy, who experienced homelessness as a child, says she wanted to give her daughters a life where that is never a worry they have.
When asked what they were looking forward to most about their new home, Mackenzie, the oldest daughter, quickly responds with “my own room”! Allen and Mandy said they were looking forward to family cookouts, making new holiday traditions, and never having to worry about not having a safe place to call home.
