Homebuyer Program
Habitat for Humanity of Horry County works with volunteers in the community to build homes. Once completed, the homes are sold to qualified buyers at no profit with an affordable mortgage. We are able to offer this incredible opportunity because of generous support from churches, businesses and individuals in our community.
Each Habitat Homebuyer in our Homebuyer Program completes a minimum of 300 hours of sweat equity per adult prior to purchasing and moving into their Habitat home.
Sweat equity is the volunteer time invested by Homebuyers in building their own and other Habitat houses, volunteering in the ReStore, attending monthly Homebuyer meetings, working and attending Habitat events and volunteering with other community organizations. Sweat equity increases the personal stake of each family member in the home, fosters partnership with Habitat and is a key principle of Habitat in building partnerships across economic, racial and national divisions.
