ReStore
ReStore volunteers serve a critical role in building decent, affordable homes throughout Horry County. Volunteers help keep ReStore related operation costs low, thus generating more profits that are directly invested into affordable homeownership opportunities for our Habitat Homebuyers.
Volunteer duties at the ReStore include, but are not limited to, loading and unloading donations, moving furniture, sorting products, stocking shelves, and assisting customers with their selections.
Construction
Construction volunteers work side-by-side with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County staff, Homebuyers, donors, and volunteers to build homes and the foundations for families in Horry County. Whether you’re a skilled craftsperson or you’ve never picked up a hammer, there is a place for you on our construction sites!
Volunteers assist with all stages of home construction. Duties on the construction sites include, but are not limited to, framing, hanging plywood, installing siding and flooring, painting, and landscaping.

Maintenance & Repair
Maintenance & Repair volunteers work with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County staff on projects for qualifying homeowners that have applied to and been accepted into the Maintenance & Repair program.
Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, painting, landscaping, and minor repairs to preserve home exteriors and revitalize neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Revitalization
Neighborhood Revitalization volunteers work with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County staff, volunteers, and community residents to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
Volunteer assist with projects that have been tailored to the specific needs of the community such as beautification efforts, community cleanups, community gardens, community financial literacy classes, and advocacy work.
Special Events
Volunteers are needed at various times throughout the year to assist with special events and fundraisers, such as our Derby Day and the annual Kelsey McGhee Golf Tournament. Locations and times vary.

Family Selection Committee
Volunteers with relevant experience can serve on the Family Selection Committee by providing valuable assistance in determining potential Homebuyers engaged in the Homebuyer Application process. Committee members are responsible for conducting home visits to assess the applicant’s need for adequate housing, obtaining relevant information to confirm the applicant’s level of need, and reporting their findings to the Family Services staff.

ReStore volunteers

Not only will you be supporting the mission of the Habitat for Humanity of Horry County (without needing a hammer!), you’ll become part of the ReStore family. Volunteers must be 16 years or older.
Volunteer duties at the ReStore include loading and unloading donations, sort products, assist and greet customers, provide excellent customer service and more!
Home Buyer program mentors
The process of the Home Buyer Program is a commitment that can be stressful and challenging for the participant. HFHHC understands the process of change and the need for support of those families in the Home Buyer Program. By creating the Home Buyer Mentorship Program, HFHHC hopes to make a successful transition from renters to owners and give the Home Buyer all the tools necessary for them to be a successful Homeowner.

About Habitat’s Home Buyer Mentorship Program Goals
- To have mentors matched with a Home Buyer as soon as they enter the program and be with them until the end of the first year of homeownership
- To have the mentors provide information, guidance and preparedness to the Home Buyers for homeownership
- To have the mentors create long lasting, supportive relationships with the Home Buyers that will inspire personal and professional success
Volunteer Mentor Qualities:
- Caring, supportive, responsive, and encouraging
- Experience with home ownership
- Fiscally responsible
- Willing to commit to a 2 or 3-year relationship
- Ability to relate, share knowledge and experience
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Build a relationship with the Home Buyer
- Be a source for information and support, answer question and at times just listen
- Be a positive role model
- Option of helping with Sweat Equity Hours and to attend special events with the Home Buyer
- Communicate with Home Buyer by phone at least 2 times a month face to face at least once a month
- Communicate any serious concerns or questions with the Director of Family Services
- Volunteers should not:
- Share or ask confidential information without first speaking to the Director of Family Services
- Provide the Home Buyer with money or gifts
- Answer questions the Home Buyer may have about the Home Buyer Program without first seeking guidance from the Director of Family Services
Family Selection
The Family Selection Committee (FSC) provides valuable assistance in determining potential Home Buyers engaged in the Home Buyer Application process by conducting home visits to assess the applicant’s need for adequate housing.

Family Selection Committee Goals
- To have FSC members pair up and conduct a home visit to assess the need of persons going through the final stage of application process for the Habitat Home Buyer Program twice a year
- To have the FSC members meet with the Family Services staff and report back their findings from the home visits and determine whether or not to send the applicant to the Board of Directors for final approval
- To have FSC members provide general information and answer any questions to the applicants about the Habitat Home Buyer Program while conducting the home visit
Member Responsibilities:
- Obtain relevant information to confirm the applicant’s level of need for adequate housing-apart from any financial information by conducting a home visit
- Complete Home Visit Form at Home Visit
- Assess the applicant’s willingness to move to current or future Habitat house construction locations
- Explain and review Habitat’s ministry and the basic requirements for obtaining a home if the applicant is selected.
- Answer general questions from the applicant about the Habitat Homeowner selection process.
