Habitat for Humanity of Horry County staff, volunteers and gathered recently for the groundbreaking and wall-raising of home #155 in Hopes Crossing.
The soon to be homeowner of Home #155, Otega, is the proud mother of Emma and Kingston. While her hometown in Charleston, SC she now calls Horry County home. She applied to the home buyer program with the support and encouragement of her mother. When she applied, her goal was to provide her family with a “forever” home. She looks forward to creating lasting memories in her future home with her children including preparing delicious meals and even playing board games.
Otega says that her journey through the home buyer program thus far has taught her the meaning of unity. She has learned that coming together with members of the community to help families accomplish their dream of homeownership is an important part of Habitat’s mission in Horry County.
Her favorite quote and reminder as she continues through her Habitat journey is one from Colin Powell. “A dream doesn’t become a realty through magic. It takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
