On a bright, sunny day in June, a group of smiling faces gathered outside of a beautiful new home at Hope’s Crossing in Conway, SC.
Two of those smiling faces belonged to Kimberly and her 7-year-old son, Tanner. That beautiful new home was theirs. After years of struggling and months of hard work through the Habitat homebuyer program, Kimberly had just purchased her first home – a dream she never thought would come true.
When Kimberly came to Habitat, she worked as a childcare provider at a local daycare and was spending almost 70% of her monthly income on a small apartment. Upon being accepted into the Habitat homebuyer program, Kim began completing sweat equity hours, attending financial classes, and saving for her down payment.
Her journey to homeownership was not easy. 2020 proved to be particularly challenging. Already struggling to cover basic living costs, Kimberly was laid off from her job during the onset of COVID. Her situation seemed bleak, but she continued to persevere. She was able to secure another job, and she pushed herself to achieve more than she ever thought possible.
This home is a fresh start for Kimberly and Tanner. She now pays an affordable mortgage and is building equity in her new home. This will allow her the ability to budget better, save for needed expenses, and have hope for their future through financial security.
Happy endings like Kimberly and Tanner’s are only possible through generous supporters like YOU! This holiday season we need $50,000 in donations from our community to continue building homes, communities, and hope here in Horry County.
