New Leadership Staff Announced

Habitat for Humanity of Horry County is pleased to announce the hiring of two new leadership positions within the organization. 

Candace Poole, PHM has joined the Habitat Horry County staff as Director of Programs.  Dr. James Wilson has also joined the staff as Human Resources Manager.  

Candace Poole, a native of Lake View, South Carolina brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her new role as Director of Programs. With 26 years of combined experience in affordable housing and community outreach, she has a proven track record of successfully administering low-income housing and program development initiatives.  Candace worked tirelessly for 12 years with the Durham Housing Authority and Spartanburg Housing Authority furthering their missions of providing affordable housing and helping families achieve self-sufficiency.  She also worked for 12 years with the Department of Housing and Urban Development ensuring owners and agents of affordable housing maintained compliance with HUD’s rules, regulations, and business agreements.

Candace is passionate about ensuring that our most vulnerable populations are afforded safe, decent, and sanitary housing opportunities and is committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative environment where participants can thrive. 

Candace holds a degree in Business Administration from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and various certificates in Affordable Housing Management.

Dr. James Wilson is a recently retired federal senior executive service (SES) member with broad professional experience across different sectors, agencies, and functions, including senior-level positions at the National Institutes of Health, Office of Personnel Management, AmeriCorps, Government Accountability Office, Office of Special Counsel, Department of State, and the Peace Corps.  As Chief Human Capital Officer, he has had oversight of the full range of human capital management, such as workforce planning, talent acquisition, strategic planning, employee development and engagement, policy, performance management, records management, and emergency preparedness. 

James is passionate about developing innovative solutions to complex organizational challenges, ensuring regulatory compliance, enhancing employee satisfaction, and implementing process improvements.  He has successfully transformed two agencies’ entire human capital management functions and led the reconstitution of the federal government’s prestigious Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program.   

James has two daughters and four grandchildren.  He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and holds a bachelor’s degree in math/computer science from The Citadel, two master’s degrees, and Ph.D. in economic policy from Florida State University.
