Volunteer Spotlight: Justin Borrero

Volunteers are a vital piece to the puzzle that is Habitat for Humanity of Horry County. Like many nonprofit organizations in the world, we couldn’t function without our team of dedicated volunteers. From those who participate in short-term projects to those who have stuck with us for years, we are eternally grateful for every single one.
This month, there is one special volunteer that we would like to recognize. His name is Justin Borrero and he has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County since the fall of 2017! With nearly six whole years under his belt, he has helped the organization’s staff with a myriad of tasks and projects in the ReStore and administrative office.
When asked what led him to start volunteering with HFHHC, he explained that he was volunteering at SOS Care at the time, where he now works, and that he was looking for other opportunities to volunteer in the community. That’s when volunteer positions in our ReStore caught his eye. He was already familiar with Habitat for Humanity, and so he quickly jumped at the opportunity to get involved. That was just the beginning to his long and fulfilling journey with our organization.
We discussed why he has continued to volunteer with HFHHC after all these years, and what it is that he enjoys about it. He had nothing but great things to say about the organization as a whole. Justin said, “It’s always been so welcoming and supportive here. I just love giving my time to Habitat.” He went on to say, “I love the mission at Habitat. It’s a mission that’s close to my heart.” He explained that the work that we do, which has similarities to SOS Care’s, providing people in our community with the opportunity and resources needed to live independently, is very important to him.
The last question presented to Justin was, “What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with us?” He was quick to answer this one, and his response was full of sincerity and enthusiasm. He said, “Definitely contact them and give it a go! You’re not going to be disappointed. You’re going to enjoy the time and it’s going to be fun. It’s a great mission and a great group of people. Don’t have any hesitation. Reach out and join us!”
