Habitat for Humanity of Horry County kicked off Women Build 2023 with a $20,000 matching gift challenge from CRG Companies, a woman-owned custom home and real estate brokerage company.
Women Build is an annual project where women from all backgrounds and skill-levels come together to empower each other, join forces, and help a local woman achieve her dream of homeownership. Each year, Women Build harnesses the power of women by raising funds and walls to build a home in partnership with a family in need of safe and affordable housing.
Additionally, Women Build offers the opportunity for volunteers to join in bringing attention to the affordable housing needs of the Horry County community and help to build strength and stability.
This year’s Women Build is the 172nd home for the organization, founded in 1990. The home is located at 807 Melson Street in Conway. Future homeowner, Shameka is a native of Loris and joined the program in the Spring of 2022. She is a single mom raising two sons and is an employee of Wal-Mart. She applied for the homebuyer program to be able to provide a stable, safe, and reliable home for her family. Currently, she pays high rent in an unsafe neighborhood. When she becomes a new homeowner, Shameka looks forward to building equity and stability for her future as well as her sons’ futures.
Passionate about supporting women like Shameka, CRG Companies joined Women Build this year by matching every dollar given toward the build up to $20,000. Women from all over Horry County and the Grand Strand donated funds and volunteered their time to make this build possible. Habitat for Humanity of Horry County reached this goal of $20,000 and accepted the $20,000 matching gift from CRG Companies last Wednesday.
Generous community partners like CRG Companies make Habitat for Humanity of Horry County’s mission and work possible. “At CRG, we are dedicated to advocating for attainable housing for everyone in our community. As a women-owned construction company, partnerships like ours with Habitat for Humanity of Horry County help advance this goal and bring awareness to the needs of our neighbors,” explained Terri Nardslico, CRG’s President.
The partnership has been a perfect match!
